The main aim of the proposed project is to develop and verify experimental methods for the
treatment of rubber recyclate, which will lead to a significant reduction of the concentration of
both heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The project will also include a proposal
for effective encapsulation of such particle treatment, which would minimize the health risks
associated with the use of recycled rubber in playgrounds where the health risk is most
significant. Last but not least, it will also optimize the functional properties, which are very
important for use on playgrounds or sports fields and must meet a number of criteria. The project
will also monitor the long-term durability parameters of treated and encapsulated rubber
recyclate.
