Materials and Environment

Group characteristics

The group is focused on interactions between the building sector and the natural environment throughout the whole life cycle of materials. The primary aim of this group is the design and assessment of innovative building materials with improved functionality and reduced environmental impact based on the utilization of various natural, secondary and waste materials. The team consists of scientists active in biological research (ecotoxicity, biodegradation), investigation of natural building materials, analysis of impacts of building materials on the environment, and modeling of the mutual influence of building materials and living organisms. The group cooperates at the solution of research problems with several other scientific teams on both Department- and Faculty level.
