Research activity

Measurement of temperature and moisture fields in building structures, salt transport monitoring, experimental assessment of thermal and hygric material properties, inverse modelling of moisture and salt transport, design and development of new measuring techniques and apparatuses for determination of hygric and thermal material properties, design and testing of new building materials for interior thermal insulation systems, application of industrial by-products in production of building materials, the usage of natural zeolite materials as supplementary binders in cement based composites, application of ceramic waste powders in concrete production, improvement of thermal stability of buildings using phase change materials – DSC analysis of temperature changes induced by phase change, transport and durability properties of different kinds of building stones, investigation of the hydration kinetics of the binder system cement/pozzolana, investigation of the processes at the formation of solid structure in the silicon oxide-Portland cement system in a relation to the binder properties, HPFRC (High Performance Fibre Reinforced Composites) at elevated temperatures, application of hydrophobic agents for improvement durability and service life of building materials, application of waste plastics in the development of thermal insulation composites, mortars with lightweight aggregate, biomass ash as an active mineral admixture for cement-based composites, cooperation with practice in the frame of reconstruction of moist buildings and structures, analysis of materials durability, materials testing, corrosion resistance and service life.

Professional experience

Principal investigator of 18 scientific projects from the Czech Science Foundation and Ministry of Education Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, cooperation in the frame of solution of 3 European and 17 Czech scientific projects. Co-editor of 8 proceedings from scientific conferences, member of a scientific committee of the international conferences Thermophysics 2009 - 2018, member of scientific committees of 2nd and 3rd International Conference on Building Materials and Components ICBMC 2017, ICBMC 2018, keynote speaker at 4th International conference on Civil and Urban Engineering ICCUE 2017, chair of 8 national conferences, head of accredited laboratory for building materials testing, member of the technical committee for accreditation of material testing laboratories.
